Why This Approach Works

Communication Foundations is built on decades of research showing that children make greater progress when parents are supported to use communication strategies during everyday life- not just during therapy sessions.

Because the most meaningful opportunities for communication happen in the everyday moments you already share together.

10 - 20%

Of 2 year olds experience late talking

Parents Make the Difference

Research consistently shows that when parents are coached to support communication, children make greater gains in language development

 Everyday Moments Matter

Children learn language best in responsive, everyday interactions—not through drills alone. Research supports following your child's lead, creating communication opportunities, and responding to their interests

Supporting Families, Every Step of the Way

Hi, I'm Amber.

I'm the Director of Lifelong Therapy, a Speech Pathologist and, most importantly, a mum to two little girls.

Over the years, I've had the privilege of supporting hundreds of families through their communication journey. One thing has become incredibly clear.Parents make the biggest difference. That's why I created Communication Foundations.

Not to replace therapy...
But to give parents the knowledge, confidence and practical strategies to support communication every day. Today, Communication Foundations is delivered by our team of experienced Speech Pathologists who share the same philosophy.
We believe meaningful progress doesn't just happen during therapy sessions. It happens in everyday moments. And we're here to guide you through every one of them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Communication Foundations designed for?

Communication Foundations is designed for parents of children aged approximately 18 months to 6 years who need extra support with communication.

Your child may be a late talker, have a language delay, be neurodivergent, have unclear speech, or simply not be communicating in the way you expected for their age.

Whether you're just beginning your journey or you've already had speech therapy, Communication Foundations gives you the knowledge, confidence and practical strategies to support your child's communication every day.

How is this different from traditional speech therapy?

Communication Foundations is designed to complement—not replace—traditional speech therapy.

Individual therapy is incredibly valuable for assessing your child, setting goals, introducing new strategies and supporting progress. However, therapy sessions are often only one hour each week or fortnight, and there simply isn't enough time within those sessions to fully coach parents and embed strategies into everyday family life.

That's where Communication Foundations is different.

Our focus is on supporting you—the person who spends the most time with your child.

Through personalised coaching, practical education and ongoing feedback, you'll learn how to confidently support your child's communication during the everyday moments that happen between therapy sessions.

When parents feel confident, children have thousands more opportunities to learn.

How much time will I need each week?

Communication Foundations is designed for busy families.

Most weeks, you'll spend as little as 10 minutes working through a lesson or resource before putting what you've learnt into practice during the routines you're already doing—like playing, reading books, mealtimes or getting ready for the day.

Rather than adding more to your to-do list, Communication Foundations helps you make the most of the moments you're already sharing with your child.

Can I join if my child already has a Speech Pathologist?

Absolutely.

Many families join Communication Foundations alongside their existing Speech Pathologist.

The program complements traditional therapy by helping you understand your child's communication and giving you practical strategies to use between appointments.

If you're working with one of our Speech Pathologists, your coaching will be personalised to align with your child's therapy goals, ensuring everyone is working towards the same outcomes.

Is this suitable for neurodivergent children?

Yes.

Communication Foundations is designed to support children with a wide range of communication profiles, including neurodivergent children.

Our approach is neurodiversity-affirming, strengths-based and individualised. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach, we help you understand your child's unique communication style and tailor strategies to suit their strengths, interests and needs.

Do I need to live near one of your therapists?

No.

Our online coaching program is available to families anywhere in Australia.

If you live in one of our service areas, you may also have the option of in-home parent coaching through Tier 2 or Tier 3.

If in-home services aren't available in your area, you can still receive personalised coaching, video feedback and ongoing support through our online program.

Can I use my NDIS funding?

Yes, in many cases.

Lifelong Therapy is a registered NDIS provider, and Communication Foundations may be funded through your child's NDIS plan where it aligns with their goals.

Whether funding is available will depend on your plan management type and the supports included in your child's plan.
If you're unsure, we'd be happy to discuss your situation and help you understand what funding options may be available.

How long do I have access to the program?

Communication Foundations is a six-month coaching program.

During this time, you'll receive personalised coaching, access to the Education Hub, practical resources and ongoing support tailored to your family's goals.

Because communication develops over time, the program has been designed to provide consistent support while giving you plenty of opportunity to learn, practise and build confidence.

What happens after six months?

At the end of your six-month program, we'll review your family's progress together, celebrate how far you've come and discuss the most appropriate next steps for your child and family.

Many families finish the program feeling confident to continue using the strategies independently. Others choose to continue with ongoing coaching, maintain access to the Education Hub for continued learning, or combine this with speech pathology services as their child's communication continues to develop.

Our goal is never to create dependence on therapy—it's to give you the knowledge, confidence and support to continue helping your child long after the program has finished.
